Chief's Desk

First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Robert Drake and my family and I have lived in German Township for 17 years now and we love this area. I would like to thank everyone for their continuing support. If it were not for the support of the community the Fire Department would not be where it is today. Being the new Fire Chief of German Township Fire Department there is a lot of responsibility and I’m aware of the challenges that are ahead for the Fire Department. Our community has grown a lot in the last 10 years and we expect that it will continue to grow. As the community keeps growing the fire department will have to also. This is why we have a very aggressive training schedule. The State of Indiana says we only have to train once a month. At German Township we train once per week to make sure that we have the best available personnel to serve our community. Here are some things that we are working on for the German Township residents. ISO rating for this area is based off of several different things. One is if your Fire Department is compliant with hose testing, pump testing, and over all equipment that we have. Right now we are going through this ISO process to help lower our rating which will help lower home owner’s insurance in our area. Our Department has made some new request forms for smoke alarms for the community so that we can make sure that we get smoke alarms in homes that are in need of them. If you need a request form call the station at (812)526-5858 and leave a message and we will get back to you with a form. We would like to remind everyone to change your batteries in your smoke alarm this Spring. German Township Fire will be starting to work with Taylorsville Elementary School on fire prevention. As the Fire Chief and as a parent I believe we need to work with the kids in our area to help educate them on safety and some ways to prevent fires before they are started.
